Native Habitat:

Wet meadows, streambanks, and open moist areas in western North America, including the Willamette Valley. Prefers consistently damp, well-drained soils.

 

Bloom Time:

June – August

 

Growth Habit & Mature Size:

Perennial herb, 1–3 feet tall, with sticky, resinous stems and narrow, entire leaves. Produces bright yellow, daisy-like flowers in clusters during summer.

 

Light & Soil Requirements:

Full sun to partial shade; thrives in moist, fertile soils. Tolerates seasonal wetness but not prolonged flooding.

 

Willamette Valley Native Companion Plants:

Camassia leichtlinii, Tolmiea menziesii, Achillea millefolium, Sidalcea campestris, Festuca roemeri.

 

Urban Garden Function:

Adds bold color, texture, and seasonal interest to urban meadows, riparian gardens, and naturalized landscapes. Works well in layered plantings, low-maintenance borders, and pollinator-focused gardens, providing summer blooms and ecological function.

 

Wildlife Supported:

Flowers attract native bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. Dense foliage and sticky stems provide shelter for insects and small ground-dwelling arthropods.
