Habitat: Moist open woodlands, riverbanks, coastal bluffs, and mountain meadows.

Elevation: Sea level to mid-montane elevations.

Light: Full sun to partial shade.

Soil: Prefers moist, well-drained soils; tolerates clay and periodic wetness better than most penstemons.

Water: Moderate; can handle dry spells once established but appreciates summer moisture.

Hardiness: USDA Zones 5–9.

Excellent for rain gardens, pollinator borders, meadow restorations, and streamside plantings.

Works beautifully with grasses and other moist meadow perennials.
