Growth Habit & Mature Size:
Perennial succulent, 2–10 inches tall, forming dense mats or low-growing clumps. Produces small, star-shaped yellow flowers atop short stems. Leaves are fleshy, rounded to cylindrical, and succulent.
Light & Soil Requirements:
Full sun; thrives in dry, well-drained rocky or sandy soils. Highly drought- and cold-tolerant, suitable for exposed sites.
Willamette Valley Native Companion Plants:
Oreostemma alpigenum, Penstemon rupicola, Lewisia columbiana, Eriogonum compositum, Lupinus lepidus.
Urban Garden Function:
Adds texture, late-summer color, and drought tolerance to rock gardens, green roofs, and xeric urban landscapes. Works well in small spaces, container plantings, and naturalistic or alpine-inspired garden designs.
